Clean hands, carefully maintained spaces, and thoughtful precautions are part of everyday care. At Webster Park Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center, infection prevention is an ongoing team effort. During International Infection Prevention Week each October, we recognize the professionals who guide this work and the everyday actions that help reduce the spread of infections.

What Is Infection Prevention?

Infection prevention focuses on reducing the risk of infections and limiting how germs spread. In healthcare settings, this includes practices such as hand hygiene, cleaning and disinfecting equipment and surfaces, and using protective equipment when appropriate.

In skilled nursing communities, these practices help protect residents receiving post-acute rehabilitation or long-term care, as well as staff and visitors. Consistent attention to prevention is an important part of daily care.

Honoring the People Who Lead the Way

An infection preventionist helps guide a community’s approach to preventing and managing infections. Their work can include educating staff, monitoring infection trends, reviewing practices, and helping the team respond to potential concerns.

At Webster Park Rehab, infection prevention is a collaborative effort guided by dedicated expertise. From monitoring concerns to reinforcing everyday precautions, this work takes careful observation, communication, and attention to detail. We appreciate the commitment our team brings to supporting the well-being of residents, staff, and visitors.

Everyone Has a Part to Play

Residents, families, visitors, and staff can all contribute to infection prevention:

  • Clean your hands: Make hand hygiene part of your routine.
  • Follow posted precautions: Observe the community’s guidance, including instructions about protective equipment.
  • Ask questions: Turn to the care team if you are unsure about a precaution or how you can help.

International Infection Prevention Week reminds us that these everyday actions matter throughout the year.
